7 Key tips on supporting someone who is suicidal

There will be a huge amount of chatter on social media about Suicide Prevention Day. But what do you really need to know to make a difference.

If I can give any guidance within all the information, it would be these 7 key steps from MHFA Englandยฎ

๐Ÿ’œ Look out for changes in personality or behaviour (but remember they might not always be there)

๐Ÿ’œ If you are concerned - Ask someone directly if they are thinking of suicide

๐Ÿ’œ Know what to do in a crisis - Call 999, 111 (2), Samaritans 116 123, Text SHOUT to 85258

๐Ÿ’œ Listen actively (putting all your stuff to one side) and non-judgmentally

๐Ÿ’œ Keep checking in on someone with suicidal thoughts

๐Ÿ’œ Confidentiality does not apply around suicide

๐Ÿ’œ Look after yourself if you have supported someone else
