Mental Health First Aid - How to get it right! ✅

There has been a lot of noise recently about Mental Health First Aid Training.
- Is it really the answer?
- Does it do more harm thank good?
- How do we look after the first aiders?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a great first step to addressing mental health awareness in your organisation. It can upskill you people with knowledge, skills and confidence around mental health to look after their own mental health and to support and signpost others. It can challenge the stigma around mental health, it can help people feel more confidence in being open about their mental health and enhance the workplace culture to be more positive.

However, MHFA needs implementing in the right way to be successful. Workplaces need to:

➡️ Provide MHFA Networks for first aiders to support self-care, troubleshooting and peer to peer support
➡️ Promote the expectations and the boundaries of the role within the workplace
➡️ Make sure MHFA is part of a bigger workplace wellbeing plan
➡️ Provide refresher training for MHFAiders every 2-3 years

At Promote Mental Health, we can:
✅ Help you train up a new cohort of Mental Health First Aiders, and implement within the workplace
✅ For existing MHFAiders, we can help you make the most of this resource you have invested in by supporting them in their role for successful implementation
✅ We can help you refresh the skills of your current MHFAiders

Organisations that provide Mental Health First Aid training see improvements in:

Awareness and confidence in recognising mental health issues

Employee morale and workplace culture

A reduction in stigma around mental illness.
