November brings shorter days and darker evening, but there is so much we can celebrate about autumn. Check out some of our tips for workplaces:

  • Make the most of daylight - Encourage people to get outside during the day, a lunchtime walk or a walking meeting. Natural light makes a real difference to mood and energy at this time of year.
  • Check in, not just catch up - Darker months can be harder for some people. Managers can use regular one to ones to ask how someone is really doing, and listen without trying to fix.
  • Look at workload before the year end rush - November is often when deadlines pile up. Now is a good time to review priorities, spot pressure points and agree what can wait until January.
  • Remind people where support is - Share details of your Employee Assistance Programme, Mental Health First Aiders and other support again. People often forget what’s available until they need it.
  • Enjoy the season - A shared lunch, a team walk to see the autumn colours or a warm drink together can help people feel connected as the days get shorter.

November is also Movember, the month that puts men’s health in the spotlight, including mental health and suicide prevention. The latest Office of National Statistics figures show the suicide rate for men in England and Wales is more than three times that for women, and highest among men aged 50 to 54 (ONS, Suicides in England and Wales: 1981 to 2025, October 2026).

Workplaces have a real part to play, from reviewing pressures at work to helping managers feel confident to ask how someone is really doing. Our suicide awareness and mental health training can help your managers have those conversations.
