Promote Mental Health Steps Away from Screens to Celebrate Techtimeout Tuesday 2025

On Tuesday 2nd December 2025, colleagues at Promote Mental Health joined workplaces across the UK to take part in techtimeout Tuesday — the UK’s national day dedicated to digital wellbeing.

This year’s theme, Connected Not Consumed: The Power of an Hour, encouraged employees to take at least one hour offline to reconnect with themselves, colleagues, or loved ones. It was a chance to pause the constant stream of emails, pings, and notifications — and focus on meaningful connection instead.

Why Digital Wellbeing Matters at Work

In today’s fast-paced world, the average office worker spends more than 12 hours a day on screens. While technology is an essential tool for productivity, constant connectivity can also bring:

Distractions and interruptions that break focus (it takes an average of 23 minutes to refocus after a digital interruption).

Increased stress and burnout from being “always on.”

Blurring of boundaries between work and personal life.

By helping employees build a healthier relationship with tech, workplaces can reduce digital overload, boost focus, and create more space for creativity, collaboration, and wellbeing.

Stephanie Henson, founder of techtimeout says:

“We’re all feeling the pressure of always being switched on. Techtimeout Tuesday is here to remind us of the benefits of taking regular breaks and encourage us to develop healthier relationships with technology - both in the workplace and in our personal lives.”

How We Took Part

At Promote Mental Health, our team embraced the Power of an Hour by having a phone free walk and phone free lunchbreak. It was nice to have these two parts of the day where I was able to switch off and not feel guilty.

Looking Ahead

Techtimeout Tuesday showed us how powerful just one hour offline can be. As we look to the future, we’re committed to continuing conversations about digital wellbeing and supporting our people to use technology in ways that enable focus, balance, and productivity.
